Loan Closets
If your local ALS charity doesn't have what you need, here are some (by no means exhaustive — Google "mobility ministry" and "assistive technology" in your zip code) resources. This is from an old list and not updated as yet.So here is a list of State AT programs not yet listed here.
Often, from the resources below and linked above, you can get an indefinite loaner of a Hoyer-type (floor) lift for transfers and toileting, and a basic hospital bed, and/or communication aids to try out. "AT" is usually the latter, and the mobility charities/ALS groups have the bed/lift type stuff, and sometimes power wheelchair loaners until your custom order comes through.
Order that power wheelchair early! Loaners are unlikely to be sized for you, are often older chairs, and tend to break down.
